St. John Aldrich Micklethwait 1901-1977. Educated Royal Naval Colleges Osborne and Dartmouth. Served H. M. S. Thunderer in first World War as midshipman.  Served Royal Navy in second World War in Tribal Class destroyers. Awarded first of 3 D. S. O.s in 1939, second in 1940 at 2nd Battle of Narvik and third in 1942 at Battle of Sirte in Mediterranean. Captured Tobruk in 1942 and Prisoner-of-war in Italy and Germany until 1945. Retired as Rear Admiral in 1954. High Sheriff, Monmouthshire 1959 and Deputy Lieutenant 1960. Chairman Cwmbran Development Corporation for 9 years.

Major General Claude Boyles Mickelwait   1981 747 Born in Glenwood, Iowa. He served in the US Army both in the 1914/18 & 1939/45 wars. Was educated at The Infantry School 1927/8; University of California 1930/5 (Law). After a distinguished military career, he retired in 1956 as The Assistant Judge Advocate General in Washington, DC. Major General Mickelwait was entitled to numerous listed decorations and awards including foreign decorations from Belgium; Czechoslovakia; France; Italy; Luxembourg; Poland & Great Britain. He died in 1981.
